Computer Data Recovery
Data recovery is the process of retrieving information which cannot otherwise be retrieved from a computer or storage device. Data which can be retrieved includes lost and deleted files, data from damaged storage devices, data corrupted from viruses, and data from physically damaged hard drives. There are many ways of retrieving lost data and the correct data recovery tool or method to use will depend on the reason for the lost data.
There are many technical problems which can cause damage to a hard drive or other storage device. There are also physical problems such as scratching a CD-ROM or dropping a laptop. Hard drives are complicated devices with many moving parts which can break or become damaged. Physical damage will almost always result in data loss. The operating system or the file system might be damaged. If this is the reason for your data loss then the first thing to do is repair the physical damage.
Most of us are not able to repair this kind of computer damage but there are many data recovery specialists available to help. You may be surprised at just how much data can be restored from a device or drive which has been destroyed, or appears to have been destroyed. Data can be recovered from disks which have been damaged by fire or water so there is always a chance for your data.
Data can also be recovered from damaged devices such as cameras, MP3 players, and USB or flash devices. Naturally data can also be recovered from older technologies such as tape drives, floppy disks, and zip drives. Most companies are focused on data recovery from newer devices but you should be able to find specialists who can recover information from all types of equipment.
1 commentOnline Banking in Australia
Almost all banks offer online banking if you are considering using this service. If you do a bit of research you will see that there are quite a few benefits to using online banking. Probably the number one reason is convenience. You can do your banking from home or work at any time of the day or night.
Many people are concerned about online banking and security. You may be wondering if your information would be safe. The banks spend millions of dollars each year on online security and they are constantly monitoring and reviewing the situation. There is really no need to be worried and many people have safely been using online banking for years. All you need to do to ensure your information is safe is to keep your password to yourself. If you never tell anyone your password and never respond to an unsolicited email regarding your login details then you should be fine.
Any small risk is easily outweighed by the benefits. As mentioned before the biggest benefit of online banking is convenience. You can check your balance, transfer money to another account, pay bills and verify your credit card transactions. Whatever you would normally do in a branch or with telephone banking, you can do online.
Some banks charge for the use of internet banking but many do not so be sure to look around before opening an account. HSBC Australia offers fee free internet banking with a good interest rate.
When you have decided to go ahead with this excellent service, review the online information provided by the banks and follow their instructions for opening a new online bank account.
No commentsInformation on Hearing Aids
As the Australian population ages, more and more people are suffering from hearing loss. Thankfully, in many of these cases, a hearing aid can improve their hearing. Hearing aid technology has improved significantly in recent years which has resulted in higher quality sound in smaller, discreet devices. Unfortunately, current technology cannot restore hearing to normal but it can make it easier for the user to detect and understand sounds. A hearing aid can at least make the user realise when someone is trying to speak to them and this is one of the main purposes of a hearing aid.
There are several types of hearing aids on the market but they all work in a similar manner. A small receiver picks up sounds and converts them into an electronic signal. This is then sent to a speaker where it is converted back to an audio signal. This process allows users to hear speech at a level they can understand. It can take time to adjust to wearing a hearing aid but after a short time your hearing should improve considerably.
It is important to be aware that hearing aids are not for everyone as they have certain limitations. They are not able to restore your hearing to normal. They cannot eliminate background noise. Your own voice may seem strange and it can be difficult to adjust to small things like traffic noise or the noise of your refrigerator. The brain is able to adapt to these background noises and within time you are less likely to notice these noises.
If you have noticed a reduction in your ability to hear correctly or people are telling you that you have a hearing problem then seek advice from your doctor as soon as possible. A hearing aid can easily be fitted and you should see improvements fairly quickly.
No commentsHow To Start an Investment Club
Investing in the share market can be scary if you are new to investing. However, if done correctly, it can be very lucrative. You can always start out with a small amount until you get a bit more experience and feel a bit more comfortable. An investment club is a good way to get that experience and is becoming a more and more popular way to invest money.
An investment club is where a group of people pool their money and knowledge and invest in the share market or the property market. They learn from each other as well as from their joint experiences. The goal is to learn and make money but it is also a friendly social gathering. You can also use the knowledge you gain in the investment club to build your own share portfolio.
Starting an investment club lets you be part of the action from the beginning. This will also allow you to have more control over the direction and goals of the club as well as to who can join. However, it does involve more risk than an established club with a strong existing portfolio. Either are viable options.
An investment clubs involves both money and like minded friends and/or relatives. If you don’t do your research then you risk losing at least part of your initial outlay. When starting an investment club each member must contribute start up cash and then they generally contribute a set sum on a monthly (or regular) basis. This will enable your portfolio to grow and hopefully become more diversified and thus less risky. The difficulty is finding members who agree on how much to invest and how often. Members must also be aware that they can lose money. Share markets go up and down and the short term risk is considerable, especially for those with little experience. Investing in the share market or the property market is a long term investment requiring plenty of patience.
The steps for starting an investment club are:
- Find compatible members
- Make a plan
- Arrange monthly meetings
- Set up a partnership agreement
- Open a bank account
- Research the stock market
- Research different sectors
- Research individual companies
- Decide how you will invest
- Set up an account with a stock broker
Success is most likely to be achieved by a club with committed members who do plenty of research and have a plan for the bad times as well as the good.
No commentsCause of Morning Sickness
Morning sickness occurs in more than 50% of pregnant women although it can also occur in women who are not pregnant. The symptoms are similar to that of a cold or the flu. Sometimes it may be like a very bad case of the flu while other times the mother might only feel run down and tired. It often involves vomiting, especially in the morning, hence the name, but this is not always the case.
It is a common occurrence in expectant mothers but whether or not you will suffer from morning sickness depends on your body as well as the baby. You may find that you suffer from morning sickness during one pregnancy but not another.
Morning sickness can occur at any time during a pregnancy but often starts in the first couple of weeks and usually ends in the second trimester. The nausea generally comes on gradually. You will most likely experience it infrequently at first and then more and more often as your pregnancy progresses. As you are coming towards the end of your morning sickness your nausea and vomiting will be reduced and it will eventually stop.
Pregnancy is not the only cause of morning sickness. Other causes are the birth control pill and hormone replacement therapy.
Even though morning sickness is very common you should still visit your doctor to ensure your health and that of your baby is not affected. Frequent vomiting can result in dehydration and a lack of nutrition which should be monitored.
No commentsDiagonising Lower Back Pain
Back pain is a problem for millions of people around the world. It can restrict their movement and for some the pain is excruciating. Back pain has many causes. It may be a result of injury, illness, or certain conditions. This means making a proper diagnosis is difficult but it is important. Back pain which is accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, or bowel problems, could indicate something more serious and you should seek medical advice immediately. However, this is not the cause of back pain for most people. It is more likely the result of injury.
Lower back pain can be classified into three categories:
- Axial lower back pain (simple back pain).
- Radicular lower back pain (sciatica).
- Lower back pain with referred pain.
The most common type of lower back pain is known as simple back pain or axial pain. This is confined to the lower back area and does not affect other areas of the back or body. Causes of this include disc, muscle, ligament or tendon damage. The usual treatment for is rest, the use of hot and/or cold presses, doctor or physio recommended exercises, and over the counter pain medication. Chronic and severe pain is can be serious and you should see a doctor or specialist to receive treatment for your condition.
Radicular lower back pain, or sciatica, is related to the spinal nerves and results in pain in the legs as well as the lower back. This is generally as a result of compression in the sciatic nerve and often results in more pain in the legs than in the back. The original cause may have been due to a nerve root injury, diabetes or a herniated disc. This can be treated with medication and physical therapy or in more serious cases, with surgery.
The other type of lower back pain includes referred pain. This referred pain can be from any part of the body. It can be due to muscle, ligament, tendon or disc damage, as with axial lower back pain. The treatment in this case is similar to that of simple back pain.
Most cases of back pain can be treated. If you suffer from back pain, try to rest, use hot and cold packs, visit a physio for treatment, and seek advice from your pharmacist regarding medication. If your pain is chronic or severe then you should see a doctor for help.
No commentsLatest and Greatest Weight Loss Pill
Hoodia has recently been in the news as the latest and greatest weight loss pill. It is an appetite suppressant which, although fairly new to Australia, has been used for hundreds of years in South Africa as an indigeneous food. Hoodia itself is a cactus like plant with stalks resembling spiky pickles. It looks like a cactus but is in fact not related to the cactus. The plant can grow up to 1 metre high. They grow naturally in South Africa and the plant is called Xhoba but the indigenous people of that region. It is a protected plant and so is difficult to obtain and export.
Hoodia first came on the market as a nutritional supplement which contained a small amount of Hoodia. Only a small number of studies have been done but the results so far are exciting, especially to the millions of overweight or obese people around the world. Studies have shown that people taking Hoodia have gradually lost weight without feeling hungry at all. They are able to reduce their calorie intake without even thinking about it and without struggling. More and more companies are trying to develop the ultimate diet pill using Hoodia and new supplements are coming on to the market daily.
The diet industry is big business and Hoodia looks set to change the entire industry. Hoodia is a natural plant based appetite suppressant with no known side effects. Research is yet to be done to confirm that this is the case but the research is taking place now. Hopefully as more research is carried out we will be able to experience the full benefits of this plant.
No commentsHow To Plan a Business Plan
The hardest part of creating a business plan is getting started. You understand the benefits but you keep putting it off; procrastinating. Thankfully, creating a business plan isn’t as difficult as it seems. With some planning and organisation, as well as a little motivation, you can have it completed in a short period of time.
The basic purpose of a business plan is to describe:
- What your business does.
- The purpose of your business.
- The goals of your business.
- How you are going to achieve your goals.
When writing your business plan you need to think about your audience:
- Who is your audience?
- Who are you writing it for?
- What are you trying to tell them?
Other questions you should answer in your plan include:
- What is your product or service?
- How much does it cost?
- How does it compare with the competition?
- How will you promote it?
It is difficult to write a business plan if you have never seen one before. Look at what other companies are doing to give you a few ideas. Take notes of important points as well as the structure of the document.
The best way to tackle a business plan is in small stages. Determine what you need to include. Write a thorough list of what is required. Write one or two sentences on each point. Then expand on these points in as much detail as possible. Structure what you have written in a standard way. Get someone you trust to look over the document. That is pretty much all there is to it. Don’t worry too much if you don’t have all the answers, just be as thorough as you can. The point is to get something in writing, you can always change or update it in the future if you have to.
No commentsWhiten Those Teeth
Who doesn’t want bright white teeth? Even though celebrities tend to overdo their teeth whitening with their blinding white teeth, I think they have the right idea, albeit taken to an extreme. I had my teeth whitened a few years ago by my dentist. They were supposed to lighten by two shades but I couldn’t see any improvement. It either didn’t work or two shades isn’t noticeable. There are many more options available now and although I’ve done a bit of research, I haven’t yet taken the step to get it done.
Everyone’s teeth yellow or discolour with age, it’s natural. However, this can be made worse depending on your diet, if you smoke, and your health. There are a number of home remedies available but I don’t think they really work. I’ve tried a few and even if there was a slight improvement, it wasn’t long lasting. Besides, I need more than a slight improvement. I’m not saying my teeth are in bad condition, that’s not the case at all. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink tea or coffee, all of which are major causes of discolouration. So I guess I don’t need more than a slight improvement but I want more than a slight improvement.
You can find teeth whitening kits from the supermarket or pharmacy. If your teeth aren’t too bad you could try these first to see how you go. However, I think the best option is to visit your dentist. Firstly, your dentist can discuss your current dental hygiene to be sure you are doing the right thing. You should brush you teeth at least twice a day, preferably three times a day. You should also floss before brushing, every day. You should have you teeth professionally cleaned once a year by your dentist. Once this is done you can then discuss possible treatments to whiten your teeth. He will either provide you with treatments which you can do yourself at home or he can do it for you or send you to a specialist. The choice is yours depending on how white you want to go and how much you want to spend.
You dentist can inform you about bleaching, laser treatments, tray based bleaching, whitening strips, whitening gels, and whitening toothpaste. Make sure you discuss any risks and possible side effects of the treatment. Get as much information from your dentist as possible and then go home and do your own research. This is the best way to make an informed decision. Don’t rush or be pushed into anything. Take your time and if your dentist can’t answer your questions then find a new dentist.
No commentsShould You Purchase An Extended Warranty?
When you purchase an item such as a camera, television, or fridge, the salesperson will often ask if you would like an extended warranty. My response to this question was always a flat out no, I thought they were a complete waste of money. That is, until recently when I purchased a new fridge. Even though the extended warranty put an extra 10% on the price, I considered it well worth it. Not that I think fridges have a tendency to break down, quite the opposite in fact. What convinced me to get it was that if the fridge did break down then they would come out and repair it on the spot and only take it away if they really needed to. All I would have to do to get it fixed is make one phone call. The convenience of this far outweighed the cost. So I now have a five year warranty on my fridge and I figure if it breaks down after that time then I’ll be ready to buy a new one anyway.
An extended warranty provides extra coverage on an item, beyond its regular warranty. You should read the fine print carefully before purchasing the warranty but it should cover any faults with the item, damage which was not a result of negligence, and repairs. Check carefully to be sure you understand exactly what it covers to determine if you think it is worth while. I think generally it is worth while, especially for larger items such as fridges, washing machines, and flat screen televisions.
Also look at the typical life of the product and its likelihood of breaking down. A camera, for example, is something we might upgrade every few years, so do you really need a five year warranty? A computer is also something which we generally upgrade often, however, they have a tendency to break down often, or is that just me?
So the things you need to consider are convenience - do you really want to be lugging that big screen tv around to get fixed, the expected life of the product, and its likelihood of breaking down. I would say if it is an expensive item which you intend to keep long term, then get the extended warranty. If the item can easily be repaired or replaced then forget about the warranty.
